Political Satire
This satirical cartoon is called “Obama the Figure Skater” by: William Warren. This piece involves the satirical way of showing what Obama and the government does for us when we pay our taxes. In this satire they are using sarcasm, in the second part the lady labeled “Taxpayer” does not get caught by Obama, thus showing that his “promises” to his fellow taxpayers is a deceitful lie; as much as it seems perfect. The way the cartoon is captioned holds much sarcasm as well. A second device would be Situational irony. It would be that irony because in the first picture you see Obama and the Taxpayer doing a move and you would think that Obama would catch the taxpayer, yet he does not. This whole piece is filled with wit and humor because just of the concept of having taxpaying compared to figure skating. This satirical cartoon was used to show america the satire in the way some people trust the government. The various devices in this piece help the reader understand theme. Don’t put all your trust into something because it might let you down, just like the government does. The taxpayers do their duty and pay their taxes but are let down by the government.

"Survival of the Fittest"
Ayan Rand was the type of person that believed in that people should help themselves but John Rawl believed that everyone should be treated fair. The theme of our piece of satire is that everybody including the elderly will need help at some point in their lives and it is wrong to reject those in need just because you believe everyone should provide for one’s self. Also our Our tone is made up of sarcasm. Ayans views are not fair and just but Johns are. Ayan is asking John for help but she herself has said that people are to help themselves. Therefore, sarcasm is used to portray her ill attitude toward people and the elderly included. This piece is exaggerated especially because of the way Ayan falls and where she falls, in a skate park. Furthermore, There is verbal irony in this piece because of John Rawls sarcasm he shows to Ayan. John is showing sarcasm to Ayan Rawls to help show how her view on justice, even when it involves elderly people, is inhumane. Also this piece of Satire has situational irony because Ayan Rand believed that people should help themselves but she herself, is asking someone for help. We are attempting to solved the view that Ayan Rand had given on Justice and fairness. Her views are just so inhumane she thinks that people should do things themselves. We put her as an old lady she was asking for help because she was falling, this was satirical because she was the one that said to do things yourself so John Rand was telling her what she would have told anyone in her position, “survival of the fittest”.
